The Orange Venezuelan Corydoras is a stunning freshwater bottom-dweller known for its vibrant orange body, iridescent teal-blue shimmer, and adorable whisker-like barbels. Peaceful, hardy, and constantly active, this social species adds both color and personality to community aquariums.

Care Instructions

Temperament: Peaceful
Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate
Adult Size: 2–2.5 inches
Lifespan: 5–8 years
Tank Size: 20 gallons minimum (for a group)
Temperature: 72–78°F
pH: 6.0–7.5
Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

Best kept in groups of 5–6 or more
Provide soft sand substrate to protect their barbels
Add driftwood, plants, and hiding spots
Gentle filtration and well-oxygenated water preferred

These are schooling fish and feel safest when kept in groups. They are active bottom scavengers and love exploring the substrate.

 Food

Orange Venezuelan Corys are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet:

  • High-quality sinking pellets or wafers

  • Frozen or live bloodworms

  • Brine shrimp

  • Daphnia

  • Occasional blanched vegetables (like zucchini)

They should not rely only on leftover food from other fish — target feeding ensures they stay healthy and vibrant.

Fun Facts

• They “wink” by rotating their eyes — it’s totally normal and adorable!
• They gulp air at the surface occasionally — this helps them absorb oxygen.
• They use their barbels to “sniff” out food in the substrate.
• When happy, they’ll often do little group zoomies across the bottom of the tank.
